display (7)Last week Staffordshire Museums Network was joined by staff and volunteers from museums in Shropshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Birmingham at The Museum of Cannock Chase for a practical workshop “On Display”. This session explored how to create exhibitions and mount objects, focussing on cost effective display techniques and adaptable design ideas.

The morning workshop was led by Catherine Waymouth and Mark Biddulph, technicians at Wolverhampton Art Gallery. This was followed by a networking lunch before Susan Dalloe, Museum Manager at the Museum of Cannock Chase and Matt Langstaff, 3D Designer for RFA Design led a tour of the museum’s new mining gallery.

Mounts, stands and labels can make a real difference to the feel of an exhibition, from a large show to a small display case. Done effectively, visitors don’t notice the mounting technique as their attention is drawn to the object(s) on display. Here are some of Catherine and…
